This was a random idea I had while browsing the Kingdom Hearts’ tag and seeing some of Gen’s drawings. I also kept listening to huge amounts of music that I might even make a playlist that inspired me on doing this drabble. Well, here we go. Alright, this drabble was done mostly while listening to this song and this one and I sudden have this feels.
Title: Guidance.
Word count: 1000+. (I s2g this is longer than I have ever imagined it to be.)
Summary: “It’s that simple. You get lost and I’ll guide you back home. That’s what friends do, right?” Because it’s just natural for a heart that has travelled far to keep travelling.
Hope you like it, Gen.

The scenery was quite something. There was no one here – no people, no sound, no sky, no nothing. The only thing that he managed to feel was the slightly cold water right on his feet as peace seemed to envelop him completely. Surely looked like some kind of Void and judging by the way Sora frowned, he didn’t like this place at the least. In fact, he didn’t like quiet places. Being the somehow energetic person he was, any silent place made him feel weird. Being alone felt weird. Where were his friends? Kairi and Riku would always be with him when he was in the islands, so it was just strange to find himself alone in this kind of place. Now that he thought of it, where is he?
He glanced over his clothes, just in case he was wearing any strange garments, and felt kinda relieved when seeing his usual attire from last time he departed on a journey – the Faries made a good job on creating those garments and he grew quite fond of them. He still didn’t know all about its magical properties, but that’s for later. What matters now is where in the world he ventured himself this time. He tried to call out his friends, but it seems that no one was around to hear the Keyblade wielder. A tired smile soon curved his lips up, one of his hands coming to scratch the back of his neck – Great. Now what am I going to do ?
Small feet met the water and as soon as the coldness was felt, she opened her eyes, puzzled and scared for her life as she didn’t know where in the world she ended up to. Her hair swayed due to those sudden movements and the girl found herself using a white sundress, one cloth that she didn’t use for quite the longest time on her life. Evelyn had no idea why she’d end up in this place above all the dreams she was bound to enter – this, however, does look like the Void, the place where people somehow manage to venture to and end up being trapped until they wake up, having no dreams at all. Her family often taught her that every soul that gets lost inside the dimension of dreams must return to their bodies safely, so it was her duty to watch over the innocent ones. Such a strange task, it was.
Glancing around, the girl blew out a sigh, not finding a soul to the least – unless you managed to ignore someone with rather unusual clothes and somehow familiar spiky hair. Oh, that's him. She knows him. What was his name again? Right, she doesn’t know. While visiting him, he had the strangest dreams ever. Thinking about it, the girl doesn’t even know how his voice sounds like. Part of her just wanted to guide him back home, but something just told her to talk to him. This boy, whoever he is, seemed friendly enough for her to interact. Nevertheless, it wouldn’t hurt to give it a shot, right? Evelyn started walking towards the stranger, hands entwined together on her back as her swift motions didn’t make any sound at all – this was the Void. In this dimension, particularly, there were no sounds or familiar shapes that could help one to recognize this place. It was, still, a reflection of someone’s most precious place so the girl figured that he might live somewhere near the water. Maybe a beach? She doesn’t even know.
“You’re weird.” she suddenly called out for him as she stopped on a comfortable distance, her voice was soft and somehow playful, even though she didn’t want to scare him. This boy seemed familiar enough with being happy or even smiling because just when he turned to face her, he had a sheepish grin on his face. He was really, really weird. Her head titled a tiny bit, never realising that they just skipped formalities. She might get back to it – later, it seems. “Got lost, huh.”
“I guess?” confusion was all written on Sora’s face, specially seeing this girl. While he was relieved to find he wasn’t alone, he couldn’t quite ignore the feeling that they’ve met before. How odd this was, to tell the truth. Ever since he knew himself as a person, this boy didn’t forget none of his friends… Unless manipulated, of course. But let us not enter on those things – it’s not like he wanted to in the first place. “Okay, uh—… You may find it weird, but I swear that we’ve met.”
Upon his statement, violet eyes widened and a gasp left her mouth in pure surprise. This was the first person who, without asking her, could remember her. Well, not fully, of course, for he could only do this if he had that particular pendant with him.
“Well. You could say we met a few times, but inside dreams.” a fluid motion of her hands signalized him to look around, even though he didn’t do it in the first place. “Like this one, right now.” shock could be seen in his face in for the first time during this conversation, which ended up making her laugh a little more than she should. Her eyes closed for brief moments while wiping the tears away – they weren’t from sadness, oh no, far from it! This one was surely fun and Evelyn liked seeing his expressions changing quickly to happiness to confusion. He seemed to be a personified version of the word ‘emotion’, actually. “This is a dream. Maybe that’s why you thought we have met.”
Sora’s expression seemed to soften as he saw her laughing, specially because this girl wasn’t making fun of him. This allowed Sora to laugh as well, scratching his neck again in utter embarrassment. How did he allow this to happen, he though. He should remember everyone he met, even inside dreams. He remember everyone he met during his Mark of Mastery test! “Sorry ‘bout that. Can you, uh… Tell me your name again?”
“Sure thing.” a small nod was give to the other one, hands coming to unite themselves on her stomach, lips curving into a warm smile. “I’m Evelyn. Does this ring any bells?”
“Not really. My bad.”
“That’s just okay. But tell me, wandering one, how come you always get into the most difficult places?” her voice wasn’t harsh or anything, she was just worried because Sora always managed to get into places that he should – the Void was a good example. Upon seeing his expression, she would soon apologise, but he was faster than her.
“To be honest, I don’t know. And – I’m Sora! No need to call me that, okay?” her name lingered on his mind, as if he had listened to it several moments before. Any other person that would listen to this thing would probably think of it as a lie. But not Sora. Not the young man who lost his homeworld, was entrusted with one of the mightiest weapons of all and the task of protecting the worlds and make sure they were safe and freed from Darkness. “But, for real, y'sure I always end up getting lost?”
She could tell that he was slightly disappointed with this, but it wasn’t his fault to begin with. As for Evelyn could tell, Sora liked travelling and for his heart was used with it, no wonder his soul would venture itself into the most unusual places. A warm smile was given to the spiky-haired boy, head shaking solemnly, eyes softening with understanding. “Not really. But I’m always here to guide you home. It’s my job, after all.”
He nodded.
“You know, Sora.” she said, all of a sudden, causing him to jerk his head up. “It’s that simple. You get lost and I’ll guide you back home. That’s what friends do, right?” she abruptly stopped, averting her gaze from him, a faint blush soon covering her cheeks, soon muttering incoherent things. “I-If… You think of me as a friend, I don’t know what happens inside your head –…”
“Sure!” his answer was louder than necessary and that caused her to jump, eyes widening in pure surprise. “Uh, sorry. Didn’t mean to scare ya.” an embarrassed laugh was given to her while the boy looked away, sighing softly. Giving her some time to recompose herself, Sora turned back to her, helding his hand to her, a cheeky grin on his face. “Let’s start again, right? I’m Sora!”
“Evelyn.” reaching to take his hand, the girl smiled lightly at him before jerking away, looking around. It’d better to take him out of here before she wakes up – no wonder what someone can do to call you back to reality. “Listen, Sora. I’ll lead you home now. Are you ready?”
“Wait!” his hands were risen, a nervous laugh escaping his lips when she turned to face him, violet eyes wide and filled with curiosity and wonder. “I, uh –… Was wondering if I could remember ya? Like, is that even possible?”
This question caught her completely off guard. Slowly nodding, her finger soon pointed to the circular pendant she was wearing, her free hand coming to play with some loose strands of her hair.
“You’re seeing this, right?” he mumbled, as she acknowledged him to be listening. “I’m a guardian, you know. And it’s my duty to protect dreamers and make sure they wake up safe. This, right here –…” she reached for the tiny lock that kept the necklace without falling and slowly unlocked it, gather the chain on her hands. “Is a memento. A proof that we met. You can have this.” without even knowing, Evelyn tossed the accessory to him, which he caught with no problem at all. “It’s a star map, you just in case you’re wondering. With this, you’ll remember me if I… Appear in your dreams again.”
“You will?” his voice gave away a tiny hint of hope, which he made no means to hide. Sora already thought of her as a friend, so he’d like to talk more with her – that’s just natural. As for the Keyblade bearer, he’d like to visit her too. In person, of course. What’s travelling between worlds when basically all of your teenage years were made of travels and discoveries? “I’ll hold on to that.”
“Okay.” after giving him another smile, her eyelids dropped and focused on the sounds that she remembered hearing inside his dreams, as to make use of guiding him back. When a sudden breeze hit her, senses pricking with the salty smell of water, Evelyn allowed herself to open her eyes, her smile fading a tiny bit realising that she was left all alone.
“I have no intentions of breaking this promise either, Sora.”
And with that, she was gone, walking towards a somewhat shiny gate, following a familiar voice brought her back to reality, since it was now time to wake up. Soon opening her eyes again, Evelyn reached for her neck, smiling lightly upon realisation that her necklace was gone. Her eyes then moved to the nearest wall, the girl soon scrambling out of the bed and picking up a pen, writing the now familiar boy’s name on the drawing pinned on a wooden board, letting out a tired sigh. For now, she’d hope that he was alright and safe from those nightmares.
But it wouldn’t hurt to check him once in a while, would it? She smiled at the idea.
Of course not. Because friends do care about each other.
